What We've Been Up To

I'm sure you've been wondering whats happened to us. I haven't done a blog update in a long time. Well, we've been doing lots of little things which each doesn't have blog potential so lets call this our blog stew. Firstly, I got Grammie golf lessons for Xmas. Notice the instructor running.
We got a great deal on two sets of clubs so Grammie and I both got a set. Now we have no excuse for not being excellent golfers (or at least looking like it). We've been out and hit a lot of buckets (and even a few balls). I've golfed a few games with the resort group but Grammies not ready yet. Hopefully soon.
We've done a bit of touring around the area as well. One day we visited the March Airfield Air Museum, about 30 miles away. Now you gotta know if there's an air museum around I'm going to stop in. I have decided not to bore you with more airplane pictures, almost anyway. Doesn't this picture make you think of Viet Nam? This is an outdoor display simulating a typical forward airbase with equipment and helicopters that actually saw service there. It felt kind of eerie.
The one plane picture I'm going to show is a P-38 Lightning which I've never gotten a picture of before. There's a whole building dedicated to this plane and it's history. It was one of the fastest, had the longest range, huge firepower and saw action in every area of the war. Until the P-51 came along, nothing was better.
There, I got that out of my system.
The next trip we took, was to Julian CA., an old gold mining town. A lot of towns died away after the gold died out, but someone figured out that apples grow great here so now the town is known for its apple pies and desserts. Not a lot here except a few old buildings turned into tourist traps. And a dozen apple cafes.
Each Sunday the locals put on a play based on old west characters and events. It's in good humour and this one was about local hill billies trying to con the bartender out of a drink. Silly but fun.
They even had wagon rides for those too tired to walk the two blocks from one end of town to the other. Four fat people got on and the horses hooves hardly touched the ground.
Our next expedition was to Temecula CA where there is a weekend market in the old town area. This was a great place to walk around and see the old buildings. They've done a great job of refurbishing the old town area and many of the buildings are original. Half of the stores in this area are antique shops. I don't know how they are doing, but I know that in a lot of areas, antiques are not as popular anymore. They do suit the old buildings they're in though. Grammie wanted to stop at Rosas Cantina but they weren't serving margaritas until noon. We settled for coffees.
The old town area is quite large and this is one of the side streets. Isn't it lovely? Trees are starting to bloom and lots of flowers are on display. Are you envious yet? As you can see, we are doing stuff, but nothing special; we're just enjoying the 80F days, the sun, the golfing and the cheap liquor. Can you believe a half gallon of gin for $11.00? No wonder we're so happy! So don't cry for us Argentina. We're somehow making it work. We'll be heading home in a month and our blog entries should pick up as we wander our way home so stay tuned for more news. Eventually. I hope.
